چکیده

The objective of this study was to determine seroprevalence of small ruminant lentivirus (SRLV), Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis infections among dairy goats in South Backa and Srem region in Vojvodina Province. The other aim was to determine the risk factors associated with SRLV infection in investigated herds. A total of 971 serum samples were collected from 8 comercial dairy goat herds distributed in these two districts. All collected samples were examined for antibodies against Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis by an competitive enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (cELISA), and all yielded negative result. Sera from 216 goats older than six months were tested for antibodies against SRLV using commercialy available ELISA. A total of 73 goats in six herds tested seropositive for SRLV with overal seroprevalence of 33% indicating that the infected herds are evenly spread throughout these two regions. The prevalence of positive animals within the herds ranged from 0 to 100% and the prevalence rate of seropositive goats increased with age. On the herd level import of goats, herd size and rearing with sheep were the most significant risk factors. The result of present study indicates that SRLV infection exists in the goat herds in Vojvodina Province. It also provides an overwiev about most important risk factors connected with the disease in the examined herds. Specific antibodies against Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis infection were not detected.

Background and Objective: As the most important human food source, milk and dairy products may lead to infectious diseases due to non-compliance with health standards. Brucellosis is one of the critical zoonotic diseases that affect the human population. Humans are usually infected by Brucella spp. via contaminated milk and dairy products and direct contact with infected animals. Methods: This...

Ruminant Brucellosis in the Kafr El Sheikh Governorate of the Nile Delta, Egypt: Prevalence of a Neglected Zoonosis

BACKGROUND Brucellosis is a neglected tropical zoonosis allegedly reemerging in Middle Eastern countries. Infected ruminants are the primary source of human infection; consequently, estimates of the frequency of ruminant brucellosis are useful elements for building effective control strategies. Unfortunately, these estimates are lacking in most Middle East countries including Egypt. Our objecti...

Epidemiological survey in single-species flocks from Poland reveals expanded genetic and antigenic diversity of small ruminant lentiviruses

Small ruminant lentivirus (SRLV) infections are widespread in Poland and circulation of subtypes A1, A12, A13, B1 and B2 was detected. The present work aimed at extending previous study based on the analysis of a larger number of animals from single-species flocks. Animals were selected for genetic analysis based on serological reactivity towards a range of recombinant antigens derived from Gag...

Serological survey of Small ruminant morbillivirus (SRM) infection of slaughtered Water Buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) in Ahvaz abattoir in south of Iran

Pest des petits ruminants (PPR) is one of the important viral diseases of goats and sheep. The viral agent of PPR, Small ruminant morbillivirus (SRM), has been shown to infect several species among domestic and wild ruminants. In order to investigate the occurrence of SRM infection in Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), blood samples were collected from 150 buffaloes (98 males, 52 females) referre...

Detection of Brucella spp. in the Sheep and Goats Milks from Southeastern Iran Using Culture and PCR

Introduction: Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the members of the genus Brucella. This bacterium is transmitted to humans through exposure to infected animals or via consumption of contaminated dairy products. Cultivation of the bacteria or amplification of its DNA using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) are conventional diagnostic approaches for definitive identification of Brucella i...
